Dhan Dhan Sahib Sri Guru Ram Das Ji
Katak Vadi 2, Samvat 1591 Bikrami — corresponding to 3 Katak, Nanakshahi Samvat 556

The fourth Guru of the Sikh faith, Sri Guru Ram Das Ji, was born at Chuna Mandi, Lahore, to Sodhi Haridas Ji and Mata Daya Kaur Ji (also known as Anup Devi Ji).

At the age of seven, Guru Ji lost both of his parents, after which young Jetha Ji was raised by his grandmother at Basarke. Around the age of twelve, he moved from Basarke to Sri Goindwal Sahib.

There, in the sanctuary of Sri Guru Amar Das Ji, he served with deep devotion, humility, and dedication. Through this unwavering service, Guru Amar Das Ji recognized his worthiness and bestowed upon him the sacred responsibility of Guruship.

Among the many contributions of Sri Guru Ram Das Ji, the founding of the holy city of Amritsar and the construction of its sacred sarovar (pool of nectar) are especially significant.

Guru Ji also composed Dhur ki Bani(divinely inspired hymns), which are enshrined in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji under thirty different musical raags.
