Amritsar-The request submitted for deliberation at Sri Akal Takht Sahib regarding the making of a film on the life of Sikh general Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa has been rejected by the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj. He stated that a decision was recently taken on December 28, 2025, by the Five Singh Sahiban at Sri Akal Takht Sahib that films, animated films, and artificial intelligence-based videos cannot be made on Puratan (ancient) Sikh warriors.
He said that Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa also falls within the category of puratan Sikh warriors, and therefore, approval for a film on his life cannot be granted.
It is noteworthy that recently, Mumbai-based Bhanushali Studios Limited’s co-producer, Sh. Bhavesh Bhanushali, had written a letter to Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj requesting permission, stating that their production house wishes to make a film on the life of the great Sikh warrior Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa and sought a meeting with him and members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee for discussions.
Regarding this matter, Secretariat Sri Akal Takht Sahib in-charge Bagicha Singh said that, as per the directions of the respected Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj, a written communication has been sent to the co-producer of Bhanushali Studios Limited informing him that a film cannot be made on the life of Sikh warrior Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa.
He further stated that copies of the recent directive issued by the Five Singh Sahiban from Sri Akal Takht Sahib regarding films have also been sent to Mr. Bhanushali, both in original and translated into English, so that he may exercise caution in future and take into account the restrictions before undertaking any projects related to Sikh subjects.
